It’s August and we have no clue where summer went, but hey time flies when you’re having fun. We plan on taking in every minute left of the sunshine and warm weather across this city this weekend. Before we do, check out this week’s #FreshFriday.
Beverly Hills – That’s Where I Want To Be (Eater LA)
The more the merrier and Alfred Coffee & Kitchen got the memo when they announced the opening of their newest location this week in Beverly Hills. With an English aesthetic that’s a little less vibrant than the trendy pink tea room, the new quaint location offers the same Stumptown beans from 7 am to 8 pm daily. Along with matchas and pastries, they are now serving cold brew floats courtesy of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. BRB, coffee break!
Greetings, Earthlings (Popular Science)
The first solar eclipse in XX year is happening on August 21, and while LA isn’t near the line of totality, NASA needs extra hands phones on deck to capture data from the eclipse. Researchers hope to gain significant insight to atmospheric changes during the phenomenon so the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) program created a free app for anyone to use and upload temperature and cloud reports from all over the country at the time of the eclipse. Get your phones and eclipse glasses ready!
Binge Biking (The Zoe Report)
A new coder by the name of Ronan Byrne recently created Cycflix, a spin bike that controls your Netflix. Binge watching your favorite show in a day can make you feel a tad lazy, but now you can spin while you watch! Basically, you set the bike to your preferred speed and distance and if you stop, or go below the setting, your Netflix will shut off #accountability. This is only a concept right now and there are no plans to sell this as a product but Byrne released the codes so hopefully Peloton or another leading cycle company picks it up and makes our dreams come true.
To-Do List (The LA Girl)
Just because summer is winding down doesn’t mean the fun has to. There are tons of things happening this month across LA and Southern California including the LA Short Film Festival, Brew at the LA Zoo and, for all you pumpkin spice fanatics, Scare LA’s Halloween Convention is here. For those who don’t mind driving south, the OC Fair is always fun and The US Open of Surfing is also going on this weekend. For those who like to keep it more mellow grab a bottle of rose and catch a movie on the beach or concert on the pier through the end of the month.
Have a great weekend!
xx, team clover
