It’s Friday and since June Gloom is in full effect we will be dreaming of sunshine while doing some Father’s Day shopping. There are all sorts of things happening this weekend from Pride to Splash House in Palm Springs, but before you power down we’ve rounded up our favorite happenings from the past week.
Hip Hip Hooray (Guest of a Guest)
This weekend is LA Pride, which means celebrations for the LGBTQ community across the city and a fabulous parade that you don’t want to miss. It’s a time when Los Angeles comes together and celebrates individuals and their authentic selves. A lot of business get involved in the weekend including Paul Smith on Melrose. The iconic building with the famous pink picture wall partnered up with Instagram for the month to temporarily paint the wall in honor of Pride. The once-pink wall is now all the colors of the rainbow until June 15. If you can’t get there to see it yourself you can leave #kindcomments across Instagram when you come across a photo taken at the wall.
An Apple A Day (The Washington Post)
At its annual development conference this week, Apple announced six major updates across all operating systems. Some of these new features include Amazon coming to Apple TV, the new HomePod and our personal favorite: an update to the Apple Watch Fitness app. The Fitness app will now have auto-sets for pool swim workouts and new motion and heart rate algorithms for HIIT workouts. Basically, we will be able to combine multiple types of workouts for overall calorie + time measurements. Can you say trifecta?
Finally Some Good News (Atlanta Eater)
Atlanta had a rough couple months, but it recently turned a new page with the opening of the first full-service Whole Foods restaurant, The Roast. It opened this month at the Midtown location with set menus based around Brazilian Churassco as well as rotating chefs to work on seasonal dishes. The best part? They will offer a bar menu with beer, wine, and cocktails during evening hours. #cheers
Forget What The Scale Says (SELF)
No matter your shape or size, going to a gym can be a bit of torture when comparing yourself to other fitties. Enter new Brooklyn gym Very Personal Training. Personal trainer and owner Dani Tsukerman wanted to make a comfortable space for people who struggle with body image. A gym should be a place to workout and achieve personal goals, whatever they may be, not based on weight or looks. The gym is free from scales and pressure to meet unrealistic expectations resulting in greater motivation and results for all.
Happy Weekend!
