Cheers to the Weekend!

Three cheers to the holiday weekend! We are right in between two work trips so we’ll be taking this Memorial Day Weekend to rest up and recharge for the week ahead. Hopefully this gloom will burn off soon for the summer days to come. Before you pack your bags, check out our favorite reads this week.

That’s So Last Season (A Beautiful Mess)
In today’s modern culture of instant gratification, it’s easy to expect that we should have whatever we want, whenever we want it. This expectation and anticipation extends to our diets and feasting on our favorite fruits and veggies all year long, despite knowing that things grow seasonally. A good rule of thumb to follow? If  our grandma couldn’t eat something at a certain time, then neither should we. Turns out that trusting nature’s perfect timing comes with nutritive benefits. Read on for how, and why, eating seasonally is a key component of health that is often an afterthought.

A New Way to Commute  (Cupcakes and Cashmere)
Angeleno’s are infamous for spending more time in their cars then on their own two feet. So, TBH this article quickly had us googling how long it would take us to ride our bikes to work and spoiler — it’s too far. But, a girl can dream. Anyone else grow up with their bike as their transportation of choice? Even if it’s just one a week, I think we could all benefit from ditching their car for the bike lane.

Protect Yo’ Self (mindbodygreen)
It should come as no surprise that not all sunscreen is created equal. Every year, the Environmental Working Group surveys hundreds of sunscreens to discover the healthiest and most eco-friendly options. This year, there’s a rise in mineral-based sunscreens which offer a good balance between both UVA and UVB radiation. Check out the link for their suggestions on the best sunscreens this season and make sure you lather up!

Memorial Day Staycation (Haute Living)
We are using our holiday weekend as a time to recharge and refresh and staying local seems like the perfect recipe. Fortunately, staying local means being in a place that people choose to vacation. Haute Living has some great suggestions for how to spend Memorial Day weekend right here in the city of angels. Brunch, anyone?

Have a great weekend!
